About Lohanas
The Lohana community, often referred to as the “Masters of Words,” is an Indo-Aryan ethnic group with deep historical roots tracing back to ancient Iran and Afghanistan. Traditionally recognised as a Suryavanshi Kshatriya (warrior) community, the Lohanas are believed to have emerged from the Ghilzai Pashtun sub-tribe, reflecting a rich and complex lineage.
Originally part of the prominent Rajput Kshatriya caste, Lohanas migrated from their early settlements in Iran and Afghanistan to the Punjab region. Over time, they journeyed through Sindh and eventually established strong communities in Gujarat, Mumbai, and other parts of India around 800 years ago.
Today, Lohanas have a global presence, with vibrant diasporas across the UK, East Africa, North America, and beyond—carrying forward their values of enterprise, resilience, and cultural pride wherever they go.
